like the others said before me handbrake is good only when you are converting the files from a DVD back to some type of video format. So what you need are two programs one that rips the files from the DVD then another that puts those files back into different video formats.
So I would recommend downloading MactheRipper (to rip the files) and Handbrake (to put the files back in video format) and both are free.
Mac the Ripper

The same as the above question, it may because that your DVD disc is from a region limited by your DVD-ROM. You may try to install a DVD region free software to make your DVD-ROM can read the DVD disc.
I used VLC to convert both files into one and then I burned them onto a DVD disc but when I try to play the disc it cant be read.
Is there some other way to do this so that it will work?

The region code is usually specified on the back of the individual DVD packages, either with a Regional Coding logo of a globe with the region number superimposed over it, or specifically spelled out. For example, while currently-released New Line and Warner DVD titles use the globe logo & number scheme, MGM/UA titles state: "This disc has been encoded for Region 1: The United States, U.S. Territories and Canada." In the cast of Lumivision's discs, they are labelled "Available worldwide," which means that the discs contain no regional coding and will play on any players in any countrys.

Please select H264 MP4 format from Format drop-down list. But please note that it will take you more time than to select other output formats. Additionally, it also makes difference when you raise video bitrates and audio bitrates.

You need a DVD recorder. You can just connect the coaxial output of the VHS player to the coaxial input of the DVD recorder (with a short coaxial cable), but you might get better results if your VHS player and DVD recorder has the dedicated audio and video outputs/inputs. They will be RCA sockets, coded yellow for the video, and red and white for the right and left stereo audio channels. You can buy the coax cable and/or the dedicated cable at a Radio Shack store.
Keep in mind that unless you are copying something for your own personal use from a DVD that you own, copying a DVD is usually a copyright violation, which is illegal and dishonest.
DVD ripper software is the best way to copy DVD to computer hard drive or convert DVD movie to other video file formats for personal use.
I spend hours to find a free source:Recover4all Software
you can easily recover (undelete) files that were accidently deleted under Windows. It does not matter if the files went through the recycle bin (and have been lost since the bin was emptied) or were directly deleted. The program is fast and very easy to use. The deleted files can be restored with a few mouse clicks. To prevent files that were already deleted from becoming overwritten. Recover4all does not require installation and can run directly from a USB disk, flash drive etc..
It's a shareware, but I find a registration key, you can use the profession version's full functions.
