FairUse4WM is a GUI version of drmdbg that supports individualization version .3930 and some WM11 versions.

Basic requirements
1. Does not work with Win98 or similar.
2. Works with both individualized content and some DRMv1 files
3. Supports WM9, WM10 and WM11beta1 and 2

FairUse4WM's functioning can be verified with "Demo" DRM files from fairuse4wm.com and ezdrm.com, as well as those from other Microsoft Solution partners.

FairUse4WM  is ONLY designed and intended to enable fair-use rights to purchase media.
- While I haven't been able to support license expiration/rental detection, please don't use this to abuse rental license
- This code does NOT allow import of KID/SID pairs to preclude its use for piracy

Note that some WM installations will have multiple ECC key-pairs, so you will likely have to "Extract Keys" using multiple licensed files. If you find a file that doesn't convert, try extracting keys wth it. Once your whole set of keys is extracted, you will no longer need to run WM per file.

Finally, I'd like to thank the people who helped me test FairUse4WM. Thanks for the suggestions, and yes, even the problems. With your help, I hope I am able to release a stable tool for Wm conversion.

FairUse4WM Latest version is 1.3.
This provides interoperability with Microsoft's IBX release of 9-23-2006
Thanks to c0redump for the static extraction technique.
Thanks to Rjamorim for hosting outside the reach of Microsoft's C&D orders

USE THIS ONLY ON FILES THAT YOU *OWN* - either through purchase or that you have ripped yourself.

FairUse4WM.EXE: 12815576c78a799114025b3b266dd156

FairUse4WM will extract the personally identifiable information (description keys) from Media Player for the purpose of allowing the user to improve the interoperability of legitimately acquired media files. At least one file with an active license is necessary.

Instructions: To actualize fair use rights with the new IBX, first run 'mirakagi' which will enter the IBX keys into the FairUse4WM blackbox-keys.txt text file. Next, you should use the attached version of FairUse4WM, 1.3Fix-2. This includes an important fix for a video corruption bug, often seen in scenes affording high compression

FairUse4WM 1.3 fix-1 DRM-Remover 2009-01-10 Fix for Windows XP (by milOtis)

This is an update to the rollback fix released by milOtis over a year ago. It contains everything you need to be DRM-free using a Napster subscription under Windows XP. This is fact will work for other subscription services too, however the lingo in this release is Napster specific since "it is the best subscription service available" (milOtis). Just do the instructions exactly as written. You only have to go through them once ever, so be patient and read them!.

Works on Fully Updated Windows XP SP1, SP2 and SP3 Systems

FairUse4WM 1.3 fix-1 DRM-Remover 2009-01-10 Fix for Windows XP (by milOtis) is the latest version of DRM removal software FairUse4WM. Unfortunately it doesn't remove licenses recursively, so you have to go into each individual album and remove the license. Please note that you may use FUWMCommander to remove DRM protection from multiplle files.

Works on Fully Updated Windows XP SP1, SP2 and SP3 Systems

NOTE: This will NOT work on Windows Vista. Of course, anyone who is smart enough to use download this is most likely still running XP, or formatted their Vista box right when they bought it and installed XP. Ok, so here we go...

This will work with other Subscription services, but these steps have Napster-specific lingo in them since I believe it is the best and only worthwhile subscription service.

NOTE: This will invalidate any current licenses you have, so this is best to do right when you get a new computer and/or are fine having to redownload music. Remember, MP3 files do not have DRM/licenses, so all your MP3 files will be fine and untouched in this process.

NOTE: Some of you more seasoned users may notice that the included version of FairUse4WM is not the latest version. This is intentional. The "mirakagi" and "fix 2" releases are not necessary to crack using this method. The included version is "FairUSe4WM 1.3 fix 1" and works perfectly.

STEPS to remove DRM from Windows Media files using FairUse4WM 1.3 fix-1 DRM-Remover 2009-01-10 Fix for Windows XP (by milOtis)

  1. Remove Windows Media Player and the Napster client (I do not care what versions you have of each, just remove them!)
    • Go to Add/Remove Programs in your Control Panel, and remove them both from there
    • Also, if you have anything else that is related to Windows Media Player, like "Windows Media Format 11 Runtime", then remove that also
  2. Manually delete all copies of these two files: "wmvcore.dll" and "wmploc.dll".
To do this, do a file search of all your harddrives for the files (make sure you select to search in hidden and system files when you run your search) wmvcore.dll and wmploc.dll .
All copies of both of these files must be 100% deleted and emptied from the Recycle Bin. If you are doing it right you will get a 'Windows File Protection Error' asking you to insert your Windows CD to replace the missing files. Just cancel it and just say yes, that you want to keep the unrecognized versions of the files. Do another search after you have emptied your Recycle Bin to make sure you got all instances of the two files. Trust me, this is NOT hurting your system in any way.
  3. Delete the DRM folder (usually C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM )
NOTE: If you do not see a "DRM" folder than you need to change a setting. Click on "Tools" in any explorer window. Then select "Folder Options..." and then click on the "View" tab. Make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and also make sure to uncheck the two "Hide..." boxes below that. It will ask if you are sure, just say 'Yes'.
  4. Reboot your computer
  5. Install Windows Media Player 10
It is distributed with this packed, but if it has been removed, then just do a search on Google for "Windows Media Player 10 Download", and download it from the official Microsoft website, or anywhere else you can find it. Microsoft named the installer file "MP10Setup.exe", so you can do a Google search for that too if you like.
  6. Follow all the standard installation settings/procedure, then one it WMP10 is installed, run it, and Click on the Napster logo, or store link. It will ask if you want to install the Napster Plugin, just say yes (you will have to close WMP during install), and accept any and all ActiveX Information bars that come up.
  7. Now, run WMP10, and it should auto-open the Napster store. Again, accept any information bar ActiveX controls that come up, and proceed normally. If you installed the plugin correctly then you will now have a login box. If you are a Napster subscriber, go ahead and enter your login information, or create a new account if you are not a current user. Napster is the best subscription service for two reasons: 1) They have everything downloadable for a flat rate, and 2) It is 100% crackable and always will be with my method/steps outlined here. There is no way your DRM keys will be updated using this method.
  8. Ok, so you are logged in, and it says "Configuring your media player" or something to that extent. Now, download a song, any song, and play it. This will ensure that your DRM key has been updated with the right version, crackable by FairUse4WM 1.3. If you did everything right, then you will have a new "IndivBox.key" file located in the folder outlined in STEP 3. If you right click on that file, and select properties, then the "Version" tab, you should see this version...
    11.0.5497.6285
  9. If you see anything above this version, like 11.0.6000..., then you need to start all over. You did something wrong. If you see anything below 6000 in the third number set, then all your downloads will now be crackable.
  10. To crack your downloads and remove the DRM protection, you should use the included "FairUse4WM.exe" file. Just run the EXE, and the first time you do, you will have to select "Recover Keys" then click "Start" on the next box that comes up. Select "OK" when that finishes, then "OK" on the next box that comes up. It will now say "2 Keys Loaded". Click "Next" and you will be in the main drag-and-drop window. This is the window that will appear everytime you start FairUse4WM now. So, just drag your downloaded WMA music files into the box, select the destination directory, and then click "Next"! This will remove the DRM protection from your files, without reconverting them, so you maintain their original download quality.

That is it! You did it, and now as long as you follow ONE simple rule you will never have to do any of this again. Here is the rule: NEVER UPDATE WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER! Also, updating Napster is not a good idea either unless they force you to update, however, I just rewrote this guide suing the latest and greatest Napster in 2009, and my method still works! You see, this method will always work since your DRM keys are based on your version of media player, and since you will always have version 10 combined with the fact that Microsoft is not updating version 10 anymore, then your keys will never change...as long as you follow the one rule, I say it again: NEVER UPDATE WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER!

NOTE: You can also go ahead and re/download the stand-alone Napster software if you want. Since we have already established your DRM keys, it will bypass that step during it's installation. So if you removed it earlier in STEP 1, you can now reinstall it.

ENJOY!!
Your friend,
~ milOtis

This section is only for those of you experiencing an error when you try to install the older version of WMP, Windows Media Player 10. If you get any kind of error when trying to install WMP10, then make sure you deleted all copies of the two files mentioned in STEP 2. If you still get an error, follow these steps...

  1. Download and install WinRAR from http://www.rarlabs.com/
  2. After the installation is complete, right-click on the included "MP10Setup.exe" and select the WinRAR option to "Extract to MP10Setup\"
  3. Inside the "MP10Setup" folder, double-click on "wmsetsdk.exe". This is a different setup file than the default one, and should allow you to complete your installation. Now, you may continue your process at STEP 6.

FairUse4WM 1.3 fix 2 adding support of Windows Media Player with IBX version lower than 11.0.6000.6324 (should work with Windows Vista x32/x64 and Zune)

The fix for FairUse4WM 1.3 was made not by viodentia, the developer of FairUse4WM, but by someone called "Divine Tao" at doom9 forums. Many doom9 members confirmed that FairUse4WM 1.3Fix-2 can successfully remove DRM protection from Windows Media Player (WMP) lower than 11.0.6000.6324 and with IBX v11.0.6000.7000. Although it doesn't work with WMP version v11.0.6000.6324 and higher.

To actualize fair use rights with the new IBX, first run 'mirakagi' which will enter the IBX keys into the FairUse4WM blackbox-keys.txt text file. Next, you should use the attached version of FairUse4WM, 1.3Fix-2. This includes an important fix for a video corruption bug, often seen in scenes affording high compression.

This version should be capable of interfacing with both Windows Vista and Zune software versions.

FairUse4WM 1.3 2006-11-27 fix adding support of Windows Media Player 11 Final

The fix for FairUse4WM 1.3 was made not by viodentia, the developer of FairUse4WM, but by someone called "monkey boy" at doom9 forums. Many doom9 members confirmed that FairUse4WM 1.3 fixed can successfully remove DRM protection from Windows Media Player (WMP) 11 Final. Although it works with early versions of WMP 11 and it doesn't work with WMP with IBX version higher than v11.0.5497.6285.

FairUse4WM has been corrupted by reversing upx compression and redacting these locations, provided by Monkey Boy as hexa offset, starting value and finalized result:

FairUse4WM 1.3 2007-04-29 fix by milOtis for users running Windows VISTA (or XP)

INCLUDES: Windows Media Player 11.0.5705.5043 + FairUse4WM 1.3(fix) + instructions

Download 2007-04-29 fix by milOtis :

NOTE: This is intended for users running Windows Vista as their main OS. These instructions include how to set up Virtual PC within Vista, and get FairUse4WM working again. All you need is a Windows XP disc. (This was tested under Windows Vista Home Basic/Premium, Business, and Ultimate). This ALSO works on Windows XP. You can just run an older version of XP within Virtual PC on your updated XP host OS.

P.S. You can also install Virtual PC on Windows XP, so you can run an older version of XP on your more updated version of XP. That way if you can get your main host OS to work with FairUse4WM, then you can at least get the virtual PC one to work with it, so these instructions work for anyone who needs FairUse4WM to work. This is a guaranteed method, since you are doing a clean install of XP in your virtual machine, and as long as you don't update it will keep working.

The "2007-04-29" fix should be the end to everyone's problems with FairUse4WM. Just load Virtual PC and just run a more out-of-date XP within your main OS. All you will be using it for is downloading music and FairUse4WM so you only need to tell Virtual PC to allocate like 128mb ram while it's running. You can also set up a shared folder to move the new un-DRM'd files back over to your host OS, so it's just like having another networked computer.

FairUse4WM 1.3 fix downgrading Windows Media Player 11 Final to 11.0.5705.5043

This fix works for already updated IBX, this resets IBX and rollsback WMP11 manually allowing fairuse4wm1.3fix to work.

Download the fix

Part of the instructions in the downloaded .zip archive include deleting the indivbox.key file along with others under All Users/DRM folder. It works on fully 100% updated computers with the latest Windows Media Player 11 Final installed.

Here's what this fix does and this is why it works: When you downgrade Window Media Player 11 Final to the one in the zip file "11.0.5705.5043" and reindividualize after deleting the DRM files under "AllUsers", the new "Indivbox.key" is individualized BASED ON your version of Windows Media Player, so the IBX is based on 11.0.5705, and not 11.0.6000...and since fairuse4wm can handle 5705 you are good to go. The fix saves a log file of updates, so no updates will be forced on you that have been undone by this downgrade, because the update log file is still intact.

The good thing about this fix is that it is not just a crack/patch, but a physical file downgrade meaning to counter this Microsoft would have to release an entirely new version of Media Player that installes in a different folder, and use a different DRM method other than IBX.

This method won't work for music and videos you already downloaded, since deleting the contents of the DRM folder will trash any existing licenses you have. So anyone who wants to do this, make sure you backed up or removed the DRM from all your existing music, including any that you ripped to protected WMA yourself.

Please note that instead of rolling back Windows Media Player to a previous version you can try a virtual machine (either VirtualBox, VMWare or Microsoft Virtual PC). Install Windows XP (assuming you have your Windows XP install/upgrade disc) on it and run the beta version of WMP 11 if your purchase requires it. If not you may try to use WMP 10 and remove DRM from within the Virtual PC and simply transfer the DRM-free files to your Windows XP/Vista music folder. Until there is an update to FairUse4WM to combat the new IBX this is the way I recommend if you use Windows Vista only or updated WMP to the version higher than 11.0.5705.5043.

And NEVER UPGRADE your WMP. If your DRM-licensed media files require an upgrade to WMP 11 use WMP 11 beta 2 or WMP11 beta 3!

FU4WMCommander - batch DRM removal with Fairuse4WM

FU4WMCommander will batch up calls to FairUse so it will call it 1 time for multiple files (in some cases it may have to make multiple calls to FairUse). It allows you to specify a seperate output path, allows you to delete the original files (assuming you use the separate output path), and has the option to keep or remove the NoDRM prefix.
